My One Word for the Year - 2018

A little over a year ago now (December, 2016), a friend of mine, David, called to tell me about a program that he heard on the radio.  He was listening to a show called “In The Market”, hosted by Janet Parshall that is broadcast on Moody Radio.  She was interviewing the author of the book, “My One Word” by Mike Ashcraft.  In it, he suggests that coming up with a list of New Year Resolutions is generally not very productive.  Instead, he suggests that selecting just one word to focus on for the year has far greater success, than the list of resolutions which rarely makes it beyond the first month of the year.

He (David) told me that he had selected “Purpose” for his word.

Not sure how long it was after he told me his word that I came up with mine – Inspiration.  I want to be inspired and I want to inspire others.  Focusing on that word for this past year is one of the major reasons why I started up my broadcasting again and started with Constitution Party Talk Radio.

This past year I feel that I have had some success in focusing on that word.  I’m wondering if I had REALLY been more focused on it, I may have been more inspired and more inspirational.  Thus, the reason for the word that I have chosen for my word this year:

Over the past couple of years, I have let many things slide that have had an over all negative impact on my and consequently, those around me.  Here are just some of the things that I have let slip:

  • Physical: As some of you know, I am a type-2 diabetic.  I have not been eating right, exercising right nor taking my meds on a regular basis.
  • Mental: I don’t think that I have read an entire book in way over a year. A good majority of what I know about the history of our nation, etc., has come from books.
  • Spiritual: Again, it’s been way over a year since I have had a consistent devotional time.

I believe that focusing on Discipline over the course of this year – 2018 – will help me to live my life better in the three major areas of life: Physical, Mental, and Spiritual.

Here are 4 steps you can take to begin the 2018 journey of great success in your life.

  1. Determine the kind of person you want to become
  1. Identify the characteristics of that person
  1. Pick a word that helps fulfill the first two steps.
  1. Keep your word in prominent places

Here are some words to consider to help you begin the process of figuring out what your one word is.

~ Joy ~ Serve ~ Courage ~ Contentment ~ Connect ~ Detach ~ Purpose ~ Listen ~ Pray ~ Integrity ~ Still ~ Breath ~ Persevere ~ Advance ~ Care ~ Aware ~ Inspiration ~ Release ~ Forgive ~ Dare ~ Bold ~ Focus ~ Gratitude ~ Forgiveness ~ Hope ~ Intentional ~ Authentic ~ Peace ~ Fearless ~ Improve ~ Begin ~ Challenge ~ Wellness ~ Balance ~ Creativity ~ Evolve ~ Change ~ Heal ~ Release ~ Grow ~ Finish ~

If you are interested in this idea of just picking ONE WORD FOR THE NEW YEAR, I’ve provided a list of resources that I believe will be beneficial to you and help make 2018 a really great year.  Certainly, this list is not exhaustive, but I am hoping that it will at least be a good place to start.   I’m pretty sure that the very first resource that I am providing below is the one that started it all.

“In fact, it reminds me of the Habitude, “Rivers and Floods.” We all know that water is a powerful force. When it flows in one direction like a river, it’s useful. But when it spreads out everywhere like a flood, it can cause great damage. The same is true with how we use our time, energy and resources. Focus acts like the banks of a river, allowing you to flow in the direction you want to go. “Rivers and Floods” reminds us that you can do anything, but you can’t do everything. In the same way, picking one word this year could keep you flowing like a river and not a flood.”
